WaterRock Institute's Professional Affiliates are chosen after much consideration and are selected based on their professional excellence, training, and ability to communicate. Each is available to keynote a program, or to be among the resources of a customized workshop or retreat. In addition, each is available for individual sessions by appointment.

John Simmons, M.D., is a Family Practice physician with twenty years experience in clinical medicine. In addition, he has experience as a hospital Chief Medical Officer. Dr. Simmons has served as president of his local medical society, President of the South Carolina Medical Association, and on the South Carolina Delegation to the AMA. He is a graduate of Georgia Institute of Technology and the Medical College of Georgia. John is certified by the Center for Mind Body Medicine* as a Mind Body Skills development trainer and group leader. He offers individual sessions that focus on Spirituality and Healing and he is a popular retreat leader in Spirituality and Healing.
Katie Warren is a spiritual director and art facilitator. She is a graduate of the Sursum Corda Spiritual Directors Formation Program and has a master’s degree in counseling from Western Carolina University, Cullowhee, NC. Katie leads retreats and workshops for children, youth, adults and families. She is a trained SoulCollage® Facilitator. She leads workshops on "Art as an Avenue for Healing" for the Live Strong cancer survivors program. Katie experiences the use of art as sacerdos—bringer of the sacred. She uses art for spiritual deepening and growth and desires to provide opportunities for others to do the same. Katie loves journals and enjoys exploring a variety of approaches of making journals and writing in one’s journal for creative expression. She was recently selected to teach a class about Art and Group Spiritual Direction at the "Heart’s on Fire" 2012 National Conference for the Fellowship of United Methodist Spiritual Directors & Retreat Leaders. Katie is member of Spiritual Directors International and is part of the Potter’s Touch Spiritual Guidance and Counseling Service network. She served on the staff of the Asheville District of the United Methodist Church for twelve years and enjoys volunteering with the Order of St. Luke the Physician.
Allyn Steele facilitates workshops and training on sustainability, community organizing, and social justice. He is an advocate of transformative learning experiences that create cooperative action between people and social movements. He has taught high school and worked on the staff of Wofford College. While at Wofford College, Allyn helped to develop a more ecologically sustainable and carbon neutral campus. He is currently attending Divinity School at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn. He is on the Steering Committee of Engage and sits on the board of directors the Highlander Center for Research and Education.
Dave Carr believes in seizing the day! Dave's expertise is in team building and experience-based learning. He has worked with over one thousand leaders and teams in developinguncommon leadership, and creating productive innovation. He has worked with Fortune 500 companies, including Procter & Gamble, Hallmark, Convergys, Fifth Third Bank, and Kroger; government agencies including the E.P.A. and the I.R.S.; educational institutions including the University of Cincinnati, Xavier and The University of North Carolina, as well as small family-owned companies and not-for-profits. At Montreat College’s Team and Leadership Center, Dave was the AHA! Resource for Corporate Development. He also served as the Venture Out! Director for corporate development at Camp Joy, Clarksville, Ohio. Dave is a graduate of Depauw University and he sits on the Board of Directors of Leadership Asheville, in Asheville, N.C. Dave is the principal of Carpe Diem Consulting.
Barbara Nesbitt specializes in providing management and leadership training for small businesses and non-profit groups. She has worked with Synergy Associates and been a senior consultant and facilitator for Wilson Learning Corporation since 1986. Barbara has worked with over 150 clients. She has a Master Certification in Wilson Learning Curriculum with a focus in Interpersonal Relationships (using the Social Styles Interpersonal Skills Model), Sales, and Strategic Planning. In addition, having served on numerous regional and international non-profit boards, Barbara offers Board Trustee Training and training on Board-Staff Relationships. A graduate of Duke University, she is a Certified Business and Life Skills Coach. She has served as the president of the Junior League of Asheville, N.C. and as a member of the International Board of Directors of the Junior League. Barbara is a trustee of Brevard College in Brevard, N.C.
